Last Week on Social - August7

Thanks again for checking out Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

It’s been a busy week! For the period of August 1 – 7, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

News Feed Update to Reduce Click-Bait

Facebook is taking further steps to improve the quality of users’ News Feeds by reducing visibility of posts featuring headlines with click-bait.

Stories, a feature seemingly directly ‘borrowed’ from Snapchat, enables users to publish expiring content to a targeted audience.

:30 Videos from Influencers

Dipping its toe in the waters of online video, LinkedIn announced that it has invited select Influencers to share video content that will appear in follower feeds.

Native Video

In the coming months, Pinterest will be launching a native video player, and a personalized video recommendation feature.

Geostickers are special stickers that users can send in chat, or stick to snaps. They are currently available in select major cities, and require location services to be turned on to access.

Instant Unlock Cards for Conversational Ads

A new card format for Twitter ads, Instant Unlock Cards enable advertisers to offer exclusive content that users can only access or unlock after a tweet is sent from the ad unit with a specific hashtag.

Vine and YouTube had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.

As always, if we’ve missed something, please feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments.
