Last Week on Social - May29

Thanks for checking out Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

For the period of May 23 – 29, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

Audience Network Expansion

The Audience Network was designed to allow advertisers to reach users away from Facebook, on their own websites and apps. Audience Network is now expanded to enable advertisers to reach everyone, even non-Facebook users, utilizing Facebook’s advertising tools and standards.

Say More in 140-Characters

In the coming months, @ handles in replies, and media attachments will no longer count toward the 140-character limit.

Retweet & .@ Convention Changes

Also in the coming months, Twitter will be enabling users to retweet their own tweets, and tweets that begin with a username will reach all of your followers, eliminating need for the current “.@” convention.

Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Vine, and YouTube all had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.

As always, if we’ve missed something, please feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments.
